Classified as a National Monument since 1910 and considered one of the greatest examples of Johannine Baroque art and Portuguese gilded carving, the church of the extinct Convent of Santa Clara do Porto was the target of one of the largest conservation and restoration interventions carried out in Portugal. Taking place between 2016 and 2021, the entire process was extensively documented, and the result is now presented in documentary format. Relying on the testimony of some of the main technicians responsible, the challenges and solutions found in the long journey to the return of this iconic historical monument to the city of Porto, Portugal and the world are described in “first person”.
